Labradorite is sometimes known as Black Moonstone and is closely related to Rainbow Moonstone. The shimmering rainbow color play is called "Labradorescence". Labradorite was first discovered in Labrador Canada but is now found in many different locations in the world. Some of the highest quality Labradorite is found in Finland.

It has been referred to as the Wizard's Stone by mystics and is believed to be a powerful good luck charm.
