The mineral Heliotrope (also known as Bloodstone) is a variety of jasper. “Classic" Bloodstone is dark green jasper with red inclusions of hematite. The red inclusions are said to resemble spots of blood; hence the name "bloodstone". (Note not all Bloodstone specimens have red inclusions).
